Peek on the TWiT podcast

Mr. Giz Wiz Biz likes Peek — as you can see from Dick DeBartolo with Leo Laporte’s review on the podcast.
Listen to their podcast to get their take. They think it would be perfect for that person you know who isn’t a big techie.
My friend Brendan and his school
So my friend Brendan and I were at the Yankee game back in June with a few other buddies. While watching the Yankees get trounced we started talking about this new thing I’m working on called Peek. I explain to him the concept of the email only device for the everyday person. I show him the early version of the Peek and he loves it. He looks at me and says that the Peek would work great for the parents of his school. At first I didn’t understand; how would Peeks help parents at a school in the Bronx? He explains the mission of the East Bronx Academy , a charter school with technology as its foundation. I wondered still how Peek fits in and he explains how many of the families don’t have email addresses, access to computers or the internet often. Well now it makes sense, the school and the faculty use email all the time but not the parents! Peek is a great way to stay in touch and these are hard working parents. They can email on their time and understand what’s going on with their kids and the school. Checking in is the best thing about email right?
Earlier this month we launched a program with the East Bronx Academy. 100 Peeks were distributed for free to the parents and teachers of the entire 7th grade class. Brendan, who I failed to mention is the assistant principal at the school, told us he had never seen such a large turnout to a PTA meeting in all the years he’s been working in the New York school system. All the parents were setup with email address and given a Peek. Brendan and the faculty of the school have already told us about parents and teachers communicating over email for the first time. We will see where this takes us over the school year but this an example of how a simple gadget can make a real difference.
And he just forwarded me this email from one of the 7th grade teachers:

These are amazing! I am communicating so much more easily with more parents.
We need to get more parents on them.
Thanks for getting these going.

GearDiary does his review. “Overall I was extremely impressed by Peek.”

And check us out on Real Simple. We love their take:
When I was first contacted about Peek—the sleek hand-held device that sends and receives email and does nothing else—I immediately thought of my mother-in-law. Recently, I sent her an important email related to a trip we were taking together. When I called to see that she’d received it, she said, “We got a new computer, honey, and my husband has forbidden me to touch it until he gets it all set up for me. What did the email say?”
Then I thought of my best friend since kindergarten. A stay-at-home mother of three, she never responds to email. For someone who is constantly connected to her laptop and BlackBerry as much as I am, this is truly hard to comprehend. “I just don’t have time to hide out in the office on the computer reading personal emails,” she explained to me recently. “I’m always on the go.”
In my opinion, both of these women would be excellent candidates for Peek. A device that’s described as being for anyone except hardcore techies, Peek puts the power of email in the palm of your hand. To set it up you simply enter your email address and password and you’re ready to send.

Ladies Home Journal’s Miss Gizmo nails it pretty well herself:
Design the Peek t-shirt
OK, gang. You asked for it. We’ll do it.
We are now accepting designs for the first Peek t-shirt. Send us a design, it becomes our “property”, and tell us what color/type of t-shirt you’d like to see it on. We’ll print up a bunch and send you a couple for free. And we’ll make you famous of course — since you will be the authentic creator of Peek Tee #001.
How long do you have? Until we get enough good proposals that we just go for it!
Some art to get you started.
When you make something — send it to amol at getpeek dot com.
