Texting
Psst…heard about texting? It’s coming soon to all Peeks. Every Peek supports it. We’re just turning it on at the servers in phases. You’ll get an email that says your Peek is “on”. Meanwhile, if you want to play with the beta version of the texting feature, read up on Geeky Peek

Does the texting feature of Peek work as fast sending and receiving as it does on a regular phone?

Is there a way to test the texting speed of the Peek?
Comment by Don — November 17, 2008 @ 4:39 pm
Great questions Don. When you send a text message from your Peek it is in real-time just like a phone. The receive however is delayed by at most 5 minutes.
You can easily test this.
1) On your Peek, in the “To:” field put in your mobile phone number (only 10 digits no “1″ in the beginning) and send a test message
2) Monitor the recipient phone. For the incoming text message from your Peek
3) Respond to the message on the recipient phone
4) Introspect for 1-5 minutes while watching your Peek - luckily its not a pot of boiling water
5) Observe flashing envelope on your Peek indicating arrival of the text message
Let us know what you think and happy texting.

Are there any plans to move to true ‘push’ texting, so that it is as fast as a regular phone? If I can do delay-free texting, I’ll be all about it.

It’s baking in the Peek oven right now. We expect to have push texting/email very soon.

Sounds good, then I expect to buy a peek very soon
If only it could get an ssh client, too. But I have a feeling I might have to hack that up myself.

Hack away that’s what we say over here at Peek.
