Newsmaker Peek
We were checking out the talk shows on the weekend, and WOWEE! Amid all the big serious topics of the day, the ABC News folks made some predictions for biggest trends in culture in 2009. Among them? Maybe someone will make a phone that does to phones what Peek does to mobile email. Alison Stewart apparently loves Peek, which is great. Say hi any time Alison!
Check it out (it’s around the 15 minute of the segment)

And while you are at it — check us out this morning on NPR’s Morning Edition show. The first gadget Mario Armstrong mentions on his list of the best of 2008.
The Ugly Truth About Text Messaging
The New York Times did a very informative piece about text messaging: cell phone carriers charge you a lot for something that costs them about as close to zilch as anything out there. Nothing! And they charge $15-20 per month for the privilege of sending “unlimited” messages.
Peek doesn’t charge anything extra for unlimited texting. You get your Peek, type the phone number you want to send to, hit send. It goes there right away. They reply, it comes to your Peek. That’s it!

Gadget of the year again! We’ll take it…
It’s a big week here at Peek. Besides my collegue Dave Hung winning the Peek bake off, even against my oatmeal cookies, Amol’s chocolate chip cookies and Diana’s wicked salty sweet pretzel chocolate bar thing we managed to make gadget of the year again. Sorry Time Inc - you are not the only kid on the block anymore.
Check out the NBC Bay Area morning show where we were given the coveted prize of Gadget of the Year. We like grandmas with GMail accounts!
USA Today gave us props in this article “New products that made tech fans celebrate in 2008.“ As you know, we did not make Peek for tech fans, but even techies know the power of simple.
Here is Edward Baigs words of wisdom:
“One other refreshingly simple gadget is worth mentioning: the Peek. It looks like a BlackBerry but is not a phone. It’s all about consumer e-mail. Cost is $100, plus a $20-a-month fee, with no required contract.”
Ed understands Peek and what we are all about.
Here’s the last one, Ad Age named us in their Top Tech Toys at #7. We are enamored with being compared to the Kindle, Wii Fit and a really cool tooth brush! Thanks Ad age.

Peek recommended on the NBC Today Show
Small businesses are Peeksters too!
We designed Peek to be the best personal mobile email solution available. What we didn’t expect was that lots of small businesses would fall in love with Peek too.
It seems that ease of use, affordability and great service matters to everyone – which, of course, we’re thrilled to hear – because that’s what we believe too!
Here’s what Mike from Pinnacle Exteriors had to say about his company’s Peek experience:
“We use the Peek devices for our lead generation team to send in new sales leads to our office. The ease of use of the devices is our main concern for the application we were looking to fill, and Peek supplied that perfectly. This allowed us to standardize our method of communication, and both increase efficiency and decrease the workload of our confirming department who would otherwise have to stop what they were doing and answer phones to take new leads.”
“I highly recommend choosing Peek if you need an easy method of e-mail communication on the go, both for their devices, and for the fact that they seem to genuinely care for what their customers think… Something often lost when working with most cellular companies.”
We’re planning to add some features and some other cool stuff to make Peek even better for small businesses. Let us know what you think. If you’re a small business thinking about Peek – feel free to post here or contact us directly – we’d love to hear from you. Contact rob@getpeek.com
Pimped out Peek pouch
We love Spike. Not only did he design a killer T-shirt that we sport around Peek HQ but his skills extend beyond fashion to Peek pimping. Officially Spike is the first Peek pimp. Be proud Spike, we sure are.
Peeksters probably look at the pouch and think its sort of cool. We don’t play it up that much, but that pouch is made of 100% post-consumer recycled material that is fused together using NASA like lasers. It’s made by our friends at Timbuk2 that make all sorts of cool bags and goods. We didn’t think about leaving a spot open for the message indicator light so Spike took it upon himself to make a much needed modification.
How did Spike do it? Here’s the Peek board post with all the directions. The Peek boards are great spot to find out all sorts of info on Peek.
Thanks again Spike
