Frugalista Peekonomics

Go check your mail (yes, this is a blog talking….)
Costco just sent millions and millions of people their monthly mailer with a stunning Peek deal. Buy a Peek for a flat price and use it to text and email forever with no monthly cost.
Why?
We did it to drive home Peekonomics 101. Peek helps you stay connected while saving a bundle of money.
Seems like folks are catching on to the whole “save money” angle with their cell phones (NYT: sayonara $100 bill and multi-year contracts). But does that mean adios emails-on-the-run and texting-in-whole-sentences and updating your Facebook? Nope.
Saving money ain’t just for pay-as-you-go phones. You can go frugalista on the smartphone front as well.
Your easy peasey, slim and award-winning Peek will save you hundreds of dollars vs. paying for the cell phone company’s data plans, texting plans, taxes, activation fees, contracts, and gotchas.
Our everyday low price is just $49 for a Peek and just $19 per month for the unlimited texting and emailing.
Do the math. Really. You are probably falling for their nonsense even now. To help you art students: here is the math
Where can I go for help?
Here at Peek HQ, we work tirelessly in the hope you never have a problem with your little Peek gadget. But sadly we’re not perfect and things go haywire every once in awhile. So what should you do if you run into an issue? You could try giving our Care center a call at 877-677-PEEK. Or … try asking a Peekster! Check out boards.getpeek.com - every minute there are literally hundreds of Peek users on the boards ready to help another fellow Peekster out. We’re so proud of our vibrant Peekster community that we’ve even asked them to be the first line of defense while our Care team gets a little rest. Have a listen here:

Cut the contracts, save money
A very fine article in the New York Times today discusses how folks are dumping cell phone contracts in favor of pay-as-you-go plans in order to save money. Of course, Peek is a way to get the best smartphone features — big screen, keypad, easy to email — without the costly commitments. So you know we agree!
Tips and tricks

Dear Peeksters,
Every week we get emails from Peeksters asking how to do various things ranging from “How do I view an image on my Peek?” to “Can I update my Facebook status from my Peek?” So today I thought it would be helpful if I sent everyone an email jam packed with cool tips and tricks.
If you’re too busy to read this email now, you might want to save it for later. Just choose “Save email” from the main menu and when you want to check up on a tip you’ll be able to find it in your “Saved folder.”
Hope you find these helpful — Happy Peeking!

Peekster-in-Chief
- Want to view an image? If there is an image file in one of your emails, “View image” will appear as a menu option. Just click on that and the image will load.
- Need to move to a specific part of an email you are writing? Just hold down the “SHIFT” button and use the scroll wheel to move left and right through your email.
- Want to send a text message from your Peek? Just compose a new email and instead of an email address, type in your friend’s 10 digit cell phone number (don’t use any spaces, hyphens etc). Remember text messages can only be 140 characters.
- Want to select multiple emails at once? Just hold down the “SHIFT” button and use the scroll wheel to highlight up to 50 emails. This is a fast way to delete a lot of emails, or mark them as read (or unread).
- Want to open an email faster? You don’t have to select “Open email” from the menu — you can just hit the Return button (that’s the one that looks like an arrow below the Backspace button) and the email will open immediately.
- You can use the same trick to immediately delete an email — just hit the Backspace button instead of using the “Delete email” option in the menu.
- Find it annoying to delete emails? You don’t have to! Peek will clean itself up if it gets too full.
- Want to avoid having to type in email addresses? If you use GMail, Yahoo, Hotmail or AOL you can download your online address book onto your Peek. Just go to “Contacts” and then select “Download Contacts” from the menu.
- Did you know that whenever you send an email the recipient’s address is automatically added as a new contact?
- Need to quickly go to the top of your Inbox? Just press the “T” button and you’ll go straight there. There is also a shortcut for going straight to the bottom of your Inbox — just hit the “B” button.
- Want to change the appearance of your Peek or the sounds it makes when you get an email? Go to “Peek Manager” and click on “Themes” to change the color of your screen or click on “Sounds & Alerts” to change your ring volume.
- Not sure you are getting emails? If you turn your Peek off and then on again this will guarantee that if there is a network connection available you’ll get them.
- Going to be away from your Peek for a few days and don’t want to be overwhelmed by old emails when you return? Simply delete your email account from “Peek Manager” and then set it up again when you return.
- Writing an email and can’t find a symbol like the “+” sign? Just select “Insert symbol” from the menu and you’ll find all sorts nifty ones.
- Want to personalize messages sent from your Peek? In “Peek Manager” go to “Email Accounts” and select “Edit Account” from the menu to put a personal touch on your signature.
- Want to know the weather? Send an email to weather–at–getpeek.net with your zip code in the subject line.
- Need a common question answered? Just send an email with the information request in the subject line to ask–at–snapask.com. For example if you want to know the status of Continental Flight 14 you would just write in the subject line “flight continental 14.” This service works for common questions such as stocks, traffic, wikipedia, sports scores, and movie times. If you have a more unusual question you can ask the Mosio community by sending an email to ask–at–mosio.com
- Want to update your social network from your Peek? Just go to Ping.fm and they’ll give you a special email address that you can use to update almost any social network including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, MySpace and many many more.
- Want the latest software for your Peek? Our Geeky Peeks are constantly working on improving Peek’s software. There are three ways to get the latest software. If you are pretty techy you can order an upgrade cable from the Peek Boutique and do the upgrade yourself. You could also just send your Peek to our NY office and we’ll flash it for you. The third — and definitely the coolest — way to upgrade is to visit a local Peekster who has the cable. A number of Peeksters who have mastered the art of upgrading have offered to upgrade other Peeksters in their area. Check here to see if there is a Super Peekster close to you Peekster upgrade locations
- Last but not least…. If you need help outside of regular Customer Care hours (9am-9pm ET Mon-Fri) just send an email to feedback–at–getpeek.com. If one of us is awake we will get back to you as soon as we can. It won’t be instantaneous, but we’ll do our best. You can also post your question on our Discussion Boards — there are loads of Peeksters out there who are even faster at answering questions than we are and are eager to help!
Peekster of the Week - Mary
We introduced the Peekster of the Week award last week and it’s time to announce this week’s winner. Drum roll please…
Some of you may remember the email we sent out a few weeks back offering free service to Peeksters who visited local Targets and spoke to the electronic managers. Well, one Peekster over 4 days traveled close to 600 miles (and even crossed a state line) to visit 10 stores. And she’s planning on visiting some more!!! Mary P. - congratulations. You are the Peekster of the Week.
Check out Mary’s travels below:

Peeksters helping Peeksters with upgrades
When we created the Peek Crash Test Pilot program for Peeksters we didn’t think it would be such a raging success (we actually have a Peek brigade!). Something remarkable happend too; Peeksters with upgrade cables started offering their upgrade abilities to fellow Peeksters! If you swing by the Peek boards you’ll see Peeksters in Florida, California, Upstate NY, Oregon, Illinois, North Carolina, and Washington DC are opening up their homes to do Peek software upgrades.
Special thanks to the Peek Brigade for extending a helping hand.
Peeksters can also swing by Peek HQ in NYC or Oakland for an upgrade. Just call customer care at 1-877 766 7335 and arrange a visit.
Peek & Ping.fm - a perfect match
We wrote about this a week or so ago but the news is official - Peek & Ping.fm are the perfect match … just in time for Valentine’s Day! Ping.fm is a super easy way to Twitter, post an entry on your blog, update your Facebook status, and on and on. They give you an email address where you send updates to (from your Peek obviously) and then your update is published to all the networks you’ve registered with them. So Peeksters, run over to Ping.fm, sign up for an account and update your social networks all on-the-go. Cool.
The first Peekster of the week - Pam

We are really proud of our budding community at Peek. We are so impressed that we decided to create the coveted Peekster of the week. Weekly, we will pick one Peekster who will be immortalized on our blog (and can brag about being an Internet star to friends and family) and give them a gift related to how they help the Peek community.
Our first Peekster of the week is Pam and what a Peekster she is! If you’ve ever been on the Peek boards chances are you’ve seen Pam guiding fellow Peeksters and really helping them out. She is our top poster on the boards.
You can chat with Pam on the Peek boards or on our community site Peekaholics anonymous
Since Pam is so active we’re going to get her a new ergonomic mouse so she can easily navigate the Peek boards in superior comfort.
Thanks Pam for being one of the reasons why people love Peek.
