What Would I Do Without…?
There are a few innovations of this modern age that I can’t imagine doing without, because they fit my day-to-day needs so perfectly.
One innovation is, of course, the Internet.
Another is – the Peek.
Part of my daily wake-up process involves turning on my Peek – the new emails I get then give me an idea of what my day will be like.
During the workday, the Peek is indispensable in keeping me in touch with Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue for which I am Development Director and CFO. The rescue group’s membership is physically dispersed – everyone is a volunteer working at their own pace using their own internet connections, and these connection points are spread out over ~12,000 square miles. Email is the most cost-effective, feasible way to coordinate our activities.
The employer for my paid day-time job blocks access to personal email sites such as Yahoo or Gmail. So the Peek is the only way I have to monitor and respond on a timely basis to the rescue’s needs. Without it, I could not organize fundraising events during business hours, and birds could needlessly suffer before someone could authorize paying for their veterinary care.
Additionally, the Peek allows me to be unchained to a computer during my off-hours. I can be grocery shopping, taking a walk, gardening – or just lazing around the house – and be alerted when there’s something new in my email box, without having to push a button. This is especially useful if I’m waiting for answers before finalizing an event.
Obviously the Peek is an important part of my daily activities. So much so, in fact, that I have backups in case my primary Peek ever goes on the blitz!

July 4th memories
The long holiday weekend may be over and bbq leftovers eaten, but memories of July 4th, 2009 are still alive and well. Friends are beginning to post photos on Facebook of the kiddies on their backyard slip-n-slide and Uncle Jay glazing his prized rack of ribs.
We were curious about how Peeksters across the nation were celebrating their Independence Day. We asked everyone to share their stories via email that posted live to the Peekinc Twitter feed.
We were astounded by the dozens of responses we received — so many Peeksters celebrating the 4th in super unique and amazing ways! Here are a few of these stories we just had to share. To read all of the stories, visit our Peekinc Twitter page.

“I was recently ordained as a minister. One of my good friends planned a block party for the 4th and said she was going to have her wedding ceremony during the party, and asked me to be the officiant! So I’m partying with friends AND hitching them up! Talk about fireworks!”
“Sitting on a dock on the hudson river near West Point, Cornwall on Hudson is the town…a wind surfer just went out..later the town has a craft fair with tons of good bad all american food. At 5 there is a parade and at dark fireworks. A beautiful glorious-Independence day, peeking on a very rocking dock!!!” - Bob R. Sent on the go from my Peek
“I’m at my cabin in Alaska…..stripping the deck today. Too much daylight for fireworks!”
“Today was our annual family reunion. It was nice 2 see relatives not often seen. I took my peek pronto with me and was able to pass special email messages from those there to those who could not make it…great fun for all.” - J. Spencer, WV
“Spending the 4th in the mountains of NH with friends I haven’t seen in 20 years! The crowd of 100 plus all tech savy’ but without a signal…..except for me & my peek! Expect an influx of curiosity from future peeksters.”
“Sometimes my family like my grandma, grandpa, mom , dad , my sister, and me go to my other grandpas on his porch and watch fire works. Sometimes we will have m&ms!”
“A couple months ago, my wife lost her job. Then I got cut back to 4 days a week at mine. Since then, it’s been rushing about doing odd jobs to pay the bills. How are we celbrating the 4th? We are working. We are working outside in the awful heat and mugginess of Puerto Rico, cutting and hauling brush in a rich man’s jungle estate. That’s our Fourth this year - celebrating the good old American spirit of hard work and sweat.”
“We are in Madison, WI with the 2009 International Airstream Rally….No where except for the millions of U.S. Veteran’s will you find more dedicated Americans than this group of RVer’s. Wally Byan, creater of the Airstream Travel Trailer, was born on July 4th, therefore, each yesr this rally is scheduled over the 4th of July. For the over 2000 Airstreamer’s here in Madison WI…. …young & old…we wish you a great 4th of July and thank all of servicemen and women for their fight for our freedom to enjoy this day.” - Msgt. Kenneth H. Luhrs(Retired) and Dolores Luhrs
“Travling to Baltimore with family and friends viewing fireworks and visiting the Declaration of Independence in D.C.”
“I’m sitting on the deck of friends home at Lake of the Ozarks looking out at the lake. Listening to the sounds of the water gently rolling in and hitting the docks and shoreline. I’m also listening to the birds sing, duck quack, and an occasional larger bird off in the distance. A little slice of paradise here on earth. Hope you all have a safe Happy 4th of July.”
“Staying home, where I can watch fireworks from my window! I’ll comfort my cat, who doesn’t like the explosions. And I’m listening to a baseball game on radio. The Yankees just tied the Blue Jays, yipee!” - Ann M.
“Hey, Patriots! I’m boikin’ peanuts, marinatin” River Tom’s Drunken shrimp, blowin’ giant bubbles in the yard, watchin’ the Revolutionary War on the History Channel, and generally bein’ grateful for our freedom! Have a grand & glorious 4rh, you all!” - J

Bikes and Peek - On the road with a Peek Pronto

I admit it. I’m a an avid cyclist and while reviewing the intriguing statistics of the web traffic on our community boards I saw a new site appear. It’s a blog from a fellow new Peekster Kent. Kent’s Bike blog has a feature on Peek Pronto. Cyclist’s like gadgets too; you should see the helmet video cam to capture tragic falls and GPS systems for when you’re lost. Kent, while attempting to bore most of his readers, convinced enough to fly by Peek to check us out. Thanks Kent for the props. You understand our little Peek gizmo and thanks for liking the simple aspect like a fixed wheel bicycle. Simple is why we are here.
Perfect gift for Mom
One of our goals here at Peek is to create a device that makes it easy and affordable to stay in touch with the people you care about. A device that lets you stay in touch with the ones you love - sounds like a perfect gift for Mom! So this Mother’s Day, we’ve decided to make it EVEN easier and MORE affordable by offering Peek Classic and 3 months of service for only $79.95. That’s right - 3 months of service for 50% off.
But nothing beats the real thing … telling Mom that you love her in-person. That’s why we’re going to fly one lucky Peekster and a guest home to see Mom. Buy a Peek between now and Mother’s Day on getpeek.com (ANY Peek, not just the Mother’s Day offer) and you’ll be entered to win round-trip airfare for two anywhere in the continental US.* A Mother’s Day Mom will never forget!
* And the fine print. US residents only. Contiguous US and a max of $500 per ticket. No purchase necessary - please call (510) 493-7094 and leave us a message stating why you think Peek is the perfect gift for Mom this year. One phone entry per person.

Earth Day
Happy Earth Day everyone. Today is a great day to reflect on our natural environment, the challenges it’s facing and, hopefully, do something extra for our planet. Some people say that Earth Day is unnecessary — that we should be taking action everyday. This is true, but it’s also helpful to have a designated day to really focus people’s attention on this issue. We’d love to know your thoughts on Earth Day and what you’re planning to do.
One thing that we’re doing is giving the Sierra Club a free Peek for every device we sell here today on GetPeek.com. The Sierra Club has a bunch of people constantly running around the country doing some really important environmental work. We want to help them stay connected when they’re out doing good stuff for our planet.
We’re also going to give a cool little water bottle to everyone who buys a Peek today. We all know what an environmental nightmare plastic bottles are - carrying one of these steel water bottles is a good alternative.
Whatever you get up to today we hope you have a great Earth Day.
